Newer being better, but is there a binary available that I can
install on my Solaris 9 system, if so, where can I download it from ?

Alternatives to tar would be backing up from a different server
or using the new tape drive on the replacement platform, both
options being prohibited for various reasons. There was also the
missed opportunity not to have created a partition so large that
the tape drive couldn't handle it...but I must not have spoken
loudly enough in that particular meeting.
