Perhaps the OP has an exclusive contract to buy stuff from one vendor.
Around 10 years ago I was working for a cancer research team (same one
I am now) that was in a hospital system that was going bankrupt. At
that time we were using 8mm exabyte tapes. From the approved vendor
these were $12.75 each while I could easily get them for $3.00 each
online. This it was so frustrating having to pay 4 times the price but
we had to comply.
