Last week we lost 4,5 TB of backup data due to a hardware failure that
was not detected by the raid controller. The error turned up with an
kernel panic and a filesystem crash, even then the controller showed
no error or problem, even the raid consistency check was ok...

Glady I use two different backup programs on two differnt hosts, so
it's no disaster. But I'm sure I won't trust a RAID to hold all my
backup data. The risk to lose all backup data is just too high. I'm
not sure if it's much better with disks that are changed in the same
way as tapes.
