Cheap enough to store the data cheaper?; They currently are now compared 
to bottom end DDS. so they getting there.

As to an inherently decaying and susceptable electronic device 
obsoleting tape, NEVER.

AFAIK, the only real backup media to rival tape for longetivity for 
backup system is acid free paper.

It all goes back to "what is a backup system" and what do you have one for.
