Howdy,

Recently I upgraded from bacula 2.0.1 to bacula 2.2.8. Clients are mostly
still running the old version. Most runs have been fine, and we did a few
restores that also worked well. OS is FreeBSD 4.11. There's a single scsi
LTO-2 drive on this box. Configs are unchanged, including bacula-sd.conf.
Same tape drive, same OS, same set of tapes.

Ever since the upgrade, I end up with the "Error: Bacula cannot write on
tape Volume "Weekly0002:
The number of files mismatch! Volume=30 Catalog=31" error. It's always more
files in the catalog than on the tape:

/var/log/bacula.log:The number of files mismatch! Volume=125 Catalog=126
/var/log/bacula.log:The number of files mismatch! Volume=24 Catalog=25
/var/log/bacula.log:The number of files mismatch! Volume=22 Catalog=23
/var/log/bacula.log.6:The number of files mismatch! Volume=79 Catalog=78
/var/log/bacula.log.6:The number of files mismatch! Volume=1 Catalog=0

I've never needed to use any of the bscan, bls, bextract utilities, but
after looking at some old posts on this list I thought I'd try using "bls"
to count how many jobs were on the "Weekly0002" volume. The error stated
that 31 were in the catalog, but only 30 were on the volume. bls tells a
different story though:

13-Jun 22:08 bls JobId 0: End of file 31 on device "TapeStorage"
(/dev/nsa0), Volume "Weekly0002"
13-Jun 22:08 bls JobId 0: End of Volume at file 31 on device "TapeStorage"
(/dev/nsa0), Volume "Weekly0002"
13-Jun 22:08 bls JobId 0: End of all volumes.
End of physical tape.

I'm going to try running bscan now to see if it can whack things into shape,
but this seems to happen after each tape change. I see no similar errors in
the logs from the previous version of bacula.

What might be causing this problem? My quick fix so far is to just purge
older volumes and mount them, but that's a bit wonky.

Thanks,

Charles
