The email report is definitely a good and easy way to tell what tape it
needs next. It goes in the order in which you label them at the time in
which you label them. For instance:

If you label all of your tapes at once, in sequence, it will expect them
in sequence.

Did I confuse you more? If you set up a config with a small backup and
play a little bit, you'll see what I mean. You can always re-label tapes
for your real backup with the "amlabel -f config tapename" command.
