Depends on whether you are part of FINRA or other regulatory bodies. We have to 
archive all email for 3 years, both internal to external and 
internal-to-internal. Oh, and all IM messages as well. We use EmailXtender and 
EMC Centera. Don't get me started about the Centera backup module for Networker.

Yes, we have mentioned to the CIO to re-inforce that fact to the 
requestors. We still have the request. :-) Most lawyers these days realize 
that very few companies save "all email" - that is, a full backup every 
calendar day, going back the better part of a decade. But just about every 
firm or organization keeps EOMs ...
