I think his point is valid, however. If you are looking through the
manual that is on the site and you find a keyword, if you are not using
the latest release (I am one of those people who runs what is in the
repository, and that is mostly 2.2.8 right now which I'm happy with),
you have to look an additional place to find out where the config
directive applies to you or not. Many manuals (Samba comes to mind, if
I'm not mistaken) do write a version number for directives that were not
in all versions.
