Of all of the !@#$%& dumb mistakes, this deserves the booby prize. Some 
days ago I screwed up the password on BackupPC and reset it. I just 
realized that there were too many little black dots in the password 
fields of the administrator web page for the password I am using. I 
retyped these and the backup kicked off without a problem. I stll have 
file access problems but this is a start. I don't have to worry about 
the communication part anymore.

Thanks for the help. I will most likely be back but for now this problem 
is solved.
