Hello,
I am assuming that your enviroment does not have FC capability, in this
case using GB direct links with Jumbo Frames is excellent idea.
I am not quite familier with NFS method of NDMP however, if you were to
attach the drive direclty to Netapp NAS and use NDMP in FC enviroment you
might achive close to 80-Mb\Sec tranfer rate.
The indexing issues may be result of the NFS method of backups you have
employed, however, if you use the storage node philosophy for your NAS and
direct attach the drive you can achive much heigher performance.
As far as server if Solaris expertise is widely avallble in your
enviroment it may give you slight edge, however, with 64 bit versions or
windows 2003, and backing up over 150 client + NDMP and 1 storage node
over GB\FC links i am not have any issues.
