Fazil> I am assuming that your enviroment does not have FC capability,
Fazil> in this case using GB direct links with Jumbo Frames is

We don't have FC yet, though we're thinking of moving that way when we
upgrade the libraries. In any case, were taking a measured,
incremental approach to our upgrade path, so that we don't change too
much at one time.
We also have a bigger site with a F980 cluster and a F960 as well,
which has close to 45Tb of data to backup. That's our problem child
currently. :]
Fazil> I am not quite familier with NFS method of NDMP however, if you
Fazil> were to attach the drive direclty to Netapp NAS and use NDMP in
Fazil> FC enviroment you might achive close to 80-Mb\Sec tranfer rate.
I may not have spoken clearly. Currently, we mount our filer(s) to
our backup servers via NFS and just backup those filesystems. We have
to specify them by hand and run scripts regularly to make sure we're
not missing any.
Fazil> The indexing issues may be result of the NFS method of backups
Fazil> you have employed, however, if you use the storage node
Fazil> philosophy for your NAS and direct attach the drive you can
Fazil> achive much heigher performance.
We have no deployed any storage nodes, though it's tempting.
Fazil> As far as server if Solaris expertise is widely avallble in
Fazil> your enviroment it may give you slight edge, however, with 64
Fazil> bit versions or windows 2003, and backing up over 150 client +
Fazil> NDMP and 1 storage node over GB\FC links i am not have any
Fazil> issues.
In our environment, I won't do Windows as the primary server, were a
Unix/Linux group. I'd think about RHEL3/4 StorageNodes though...
