The reason it was slow, I don't know. But the "Java" name is just Sun
being dopey. Same with the Java Enterprise System mail software. I'm
fairly certain that no significant portion of it is written in Java,
it's just what they choose to call it. Same with the dopey stock ticker
symbol change from SUNW to JAVA. Perhaps the video driver you were using
(or all of them -- I'm not really sure) is slower than the Linux equivalent.

You might see what the deal is with the video driver if you find it
slow. Here's an example of a screenshot. I personally find it rather
