That is strange.  The differences between Fedora and Ubuntu are mainly
cosmetic.  At the core, they are both Linux.  There should not be a
major performance difference unless it is caused by an updated driver in
the newer OS.

You will get this issue with Fedora (according to reports...I don't use
it myself), but it should not be an issue with CentOS or Ubuntu LTS. 
Fedora is bleeding edge, so their updates can change APIs and make major
upgrades to libraries, which can cause issues at times.  CentOS (RHEL)
and Ubuntu LTS are more focused on stability, so their updates should
not cause that sort of problem.
