A GUI to do all the config and operations would be cool.

I'm still reading all the config files and install instructions!!

What resources do you need?

Regards

Now that's nice to know. When I have money again. I will contact my
friend at Western Scientific and pick one up. I have more data than 12
DDS-I tapes can handle, but a DDS-III in here will cover it all (for now
:). The other issues is speed. It's been backing up all yesterday and is
still going now. Because I couldn't get xinetd working, I am going the
NFS route. One thing I need to do is enable disconnection on the drive
(disabled to make sure the drive would work). The second thing is
possibly drop another SCSI controller in the machine and run the changer
on a different controller. Right now it shares a controller with the
system HDDs, which tends to slow the machine down (especially with
disconnection disabled).

So far though, it's backed up 6 tapes worth of data and is on the
seventh. It's currently doing one of the NFS mounted drives (the largest
one at over 11GB). When it's done I'll see about getting the xinetd
problem resolved. To answer Gene's question, yes the .amandahosts file
is setup on both machines, passwords sync'ed, etc. To answer another,
when I look at it again I'll run tcpdump and/or iptraf and see if they
are even attempting to talk. The machines are connected to a 10/100
switch that has a cable/DSL firewall/router built in (Netgear RO318,
latest firmware). Just to make sure, I disabled the blocking of the
ports that Amanda is using, but it made no difference (as it shouldn't -
the router should only block packets going to/coming from the cable
modem, not traversing the internal LAN). I double and triple checked the
firewalls on both machines (ipchains/iptables) and made sure they were
not blocking anything.

On another note. I'm thinking about writing a GUI for Amanda, unless
there's a good one already available or in the works (though when I
searched on the 'net I found nothing). Would people be interested in
such a thing?
