If you are happy using TAR for doing Amanda backups on
the Netapp, I'd like to try the same on my backup
host. Since my Netapp is at about 90 Gb usage with one
of the mounted directories close to 50 Gb, backups
using dump/restore fail for the Netapp.
Here's a skeleton for disklist how to break up your large
filesystem into smaller pieces using gnutar to do the backup.
Since amanda 2.4.3 you can modify the dumptype inline
in the disklist; we modify the dumptype by adding some exclude
patterns to the dumptype. We work up in the tree, listing
large objects, and excluding them from the level above.
# A very big directory
your.host /filer/home/john/pictures comp-user-tar 1
# The rest of the files and directories from john
your.host /filer/home/john {
comp-user-tar
exclude append "./pictures"
} 1
# Two big directories
your.host /filer/home/paul/music comp-user-tar 1
your.host /filer/home/paul/bigproject comp-user-tar 1
# The rest of files an directories from paul
your.host /filer/home/paul {
comp-user-tar
exclude append "./music"
exclude append "./bigproject"
} 1
your.host /filer/home/george comp-user-tar 1
your.host /filer/home/ringo comp-user-tar 1
your.host /filer/home {
comp-user-tar
exclude append "./john"
exclude append "./paul"
exclude append "./george"
exclude append "./ringo"
} 1
# all the rest
your.host /filer {
comp-user-tar
exclude append "./home"
} 1
(We assume your netapp is mounted under /filer, so we stop here.)
