If you've already tested using dd/tar/whatever from local server and its still 
lagging, this question is obsolete, but - just a blind shot:

what's your Ethernet speed, the one you talk about looks like 10Mbit?

ethtool eth0/bond0/vlan33  | grep -i speed ?
