That has always been filled for me.

I think both approaches should do the same thing.  And the same for
running Backuppc_tarCreate from the command line.  Not sure where to
start to debug it, though.   Most oddball bugs are from having some
old/wrong perl module on the system somewhere.   Have you installed
any CPAN modules instead of .deb packaged versions?
