I was once that way as well. I got better and it wasn't hard. ;)
In the end, linux OSes are pretty much the same when you get past the
packaging and some layout quirks.

Can you log in to the remote user with ssh? Try 'ssh -v backuppc@vmhost' and
see if it connects without error. Watch the logs on the remote side and see
what comes up. I wouldn't be surprised if you have an SSH host key change,
or .authorized_keys ownership problem (should be owned by backuppc and
probably not group-writeable), or ~/.ssh permissions problem (I set it 600).
