Note that amtapetype doesn't get any config name on the command line.
Thus it has no idea which amanda.conf to use. The problem you report,
with amtapetype, has nothing to do with amanda.conf. amtapetype does
not use amanda.conf, nor any other part of amanda IIRC. It is used to
determine appropriate values to put into amanda.conf.

I took this to be a hardware, not an amanda problem. Thus I
suggested that you explore whether your hardware was working
properly outside of using any amanda tools. I.e. just use
standard system commands.

Another responder, I think it was Paul, suggested that as the
first short write phase 1 seemed to have worked, perhaps the
problem was that following a rewind the drive reports it is
ready for the next operation too early, before it is done
rewinding. Thus when it receives the next command it reports
an error. This behavior from has been observed before from
some model drives.

If your testing of the drive outside of amanda suggests
that the drive is working ok, this is a reasonable
tapetype definition to use.
