Craig,

Yes, looking at my /kernel/drv/sgen.conf file I also see that it
is pretty simple (simpler than I'd though/remembered).

All of the other lines are comments, these 3 lines seem to completely
cover both my L9 and my C2 changers.

device-type-config-list="changer";
name="sgen" class="scsi" target=4 lun=0;
name="sgen" class="scsi" target=4 lun=1;

This may sounds stupid... reboot -- -r
and while I can't imagine it, the protections on that file, mine are
   6 -rw-r--r--   1 root     sys         3033 Jan  9  2003 sgen.conf

Now I'm worried... I didn't have the c2 that long ago, I don't think
(these things are starting to get fuzzy for me).
