There is no "direct" support for optical media.  It would be a
two step approach much like you appear to be doing now.

>From what I read on the list, those that use dvd's make their
backups to virtual tapes, amanda speak for hard disk acting like
magnetic tape.  They size these vtapes to match what they want
to write to dvd.  Then in a separate step burn the vtape directory
to the dvd.
