Personally I do not use such a setup, but (untested) would something
like this work?
In amanda.conf, backup to a vtape:
tapedev "file:/space/vtape"
tapetype DVD47G
define tapetype DVD47G {
length 4482 MB
filemark 4KB
}
Two possibilities here:
Possibility 1: backup to a DVD[+-]R or DVD[+-]RW
This needs to be written to with cdrecord, so we make a backup
to a staging area on disk:
Create the vtape on disk:
# mkdir -p /space/vtape/data
# chown -R amanda /space/vtape
Label the vtape, just as any normal tape:
$ amlabel daily Daily-01
And run, as usual, amdump (manually of from crontab).
$ amdump daily
And then burn the contents of the data directory to the DVD[-+]RW?
with cdrecord:
$ cd /space/vtape/data
$ mkisofs ...options... | cdrecord ...options...
Possibility 2: backup to a DVD-RAM
Mount the DVD-RAM with udf, so you can write to it like a real disk
(I'm not sure if the vtape-length is still 4482 MB in this case??)
Make sure user amanda has permission to write to the disk:
# mount -t udf -o uid=amanda /dev/yourdvd /media/dvdram
(or prepare /etc/fstab to allow amanda doing this tooà
# and create the vtape with data a symlink to the mounted device:
# mkdir /space/vtape
# chown amanda /space/vtape
# su - amanda
$ ln -s /media/dvdram /space/vtape/data
$ amdump daily
and unmount the dvdram when finished.
See the most recent information about the file driver in:

Has anybody tried such a scheme already? Feedback welcome!!
