IIRC, the various dump programs all maintain their own dumpdate files.
I was only assuming that they may not all use /etc/dumpdates.
But as amanda does nothing with those files, IMHO, amanda should
not document them.  Plus, I just looked at 3 different systems, two
having backup programs named simply "dump".  Each used a different
file to store their timestamps.  Certainly amanda can't list every
OS and FS dump variant and their timestamp file locations.

Tar is the odd man out; I doubt it was ever intended to be a
system-wide backup program.  It doesn't have the capability to
record its own backup dates file.  So amanda fudges a dumpdates file,
by default using /etc/amandates.
