IIRC, the various dump programs all maintain their own dumpdate files.
I was only assuming that they may not all use /etc/dumpdates.
But as amanda does nothing with those files, IMHO, amanda should
not document them. Plus, I just looked at 3 different systems, two
having backup programs named simply "dump". Each used a different
file to store their timestamps. Certainly amanda can't list every
OS and FS dump variant and their timestamp file locations.
Tar is the odd man out; I doubt it was ever intended to be a
system-wide backup program. It doesn't have the capability to
record its own backup dates file. So amanda fudges a dumpdates file,
by default using /etc/amandates.
