I got my amrestore and amrecovers mixed up when i typed this email.
It is asking for a specific tape. When i does I just open another session and tell the changer to find the tape.

I don't understand this. because It will ask me the tape to put in. I can switch to another session and type

I've not used amrestore (thankfully not needed yet).

Is it really asking for a specific tape or is it just asking you to confirm
that the tape is inserted and ready to go?

It is my understanding that amrestore was written to not need any information about an amanda configuration (including changer), nor any other amanda commands. It gets all it needs from the command line and from the headers on the tape it
is restoring.

This is the same behavior I was noticing with amrecover (NOT amrestore). It would look for the tape but die with the rewind since it seemed to not wait long enough. Almost as if amrevocer was ignoring the delay defined in the config file. So I started just manually putting the tape in and making sure it was rewound before I answered the questions to restore.
