Make that easily 5 or 10 minutes if the library somehow has to inventory 
its content, because a tape magazine has been extracted and reinserted 
for instance.

I have the very same library on a centos host (Dan's guess regarding the 
changer device name looks right). They are awfully slow when it comes to 
moving tapes. If it has to bring a number of them in front of its 
barcode reader, you'll have to wait before a "mtx status" or "update 
slots" works.
