you were absolutely right!

When I was configuring amanda, I ran

# ./chg-scsi -genconf

to generate the chg-scsi.conf file for my Tape Changer.  By default, it 
included emubarcode & havebarcode.  By commenting these options from the file, 
I no longer received those error messages.
