Hi bob,
 From my experience NDMP restores only work back to the filer.
I did try a restore back to our master Unix server local disk
 such as /tmp with no result.

Another thing is, if you specify an alternate location in the filer
 to restore to, it restores your data + it nests the absolute path
 of the original data under this.
