Yes but not only with NDMP. "Normal" NetWorker backups or using 
modules are working in the same way. The behavior is "better" on NDMP
because only 1 backup session is impacted at a time (no multiplexing on
tape). Non-NDMP backups being multiplexed on tape, you have the same or 
more snowball effect on your backups.

The biggest gotcha is that with NDMP if a error occurs during the backup
it aborts the entire backup. There is currently no checkpointing. NetApp
has proposed an extension for NDMP v4 to the IETF for restartable
backups, but no one has implemented it to my knowledge. It isn't in
v7.1.1 of Networker. This means if you have a media error at 1900GB of a
2000GB backup, it aborts and starts over at byte 0. This has been a big
issue with us forcing us to move to a more dependable media (exabyte
M2-> IBM LTO-2) that also is less susceptible to "shoe-shining"
