Hardrives for backup are to be ok for a 3,5 years period. They need to be check 
time to time.
And if you want archiving it's never one always ware two backups on two 
different medium (Mfg,firmware version etc...)

Long term archiving is contant migration of data to new support.

That's litterature, in a decade who can read a DAT-1 now if you don't have the 
device adapted

Hopefully we are using bacula, have the source, have a open-documented,stable 
format ! A test made some month ago, prove (with
the right device) that we can restore a 8 years bacula medium.
(was made of the beginning of the bacula project)

Anybody using Arghserve, "in disaster is Veritas", ntbackup (ooups doesn't 
exist anymore) can say the same ? :-)
