How are you 100% sure that only Bacula will change this archive bit on your
system? (It can
lead to serious consistency problems if users run winzip on your back) How
will work
Differential backups? (this bit would have been unset many incremental
backups ago). How
will work your solution on Unix? Does it work with VSS read-only snapshots?

The current solution uses memory, that true (the next version will certainly
also include the
checksum for all files), but it covers all those situations with the same
piece of code (which
have the benefit to exist).

Personnaly, i don't  "feel a true interest in Windows", but all new features
are working on it.
