You may want to offer her some payware like Crashplan (www.crashplan.com). I
believe this does encryption and offers some other nice features for users
on the road. (push driven architecture, backs up locked files, throttleable
rsync-like backups).

Backuppc is great; but one should use the appropriate tool for the job.
