The logfile should have something more specific than that - but it 
sounds like a timeout or some kind of write error (weird windows 
permissions - or writing a file too big to a FAT filesystem?).  If you 
have enough space on the backuppc server, you might restore there with 
BackupPC_tarCreate |tar -x, then worry separately about how to get the 
results back to the windows box.  If you have cygwin ssh and rsync 
installed that would be the obvious thing (issuing the command from the 
windows side) since it can restart efficiently after a problem.  Or you 
could samba-share from the server - but you'd need something like 
robocopy to recover from any errors in the copy since the native windows 
tools won't.
