That was the reason I mentioned clonezilla.  Clonezilla-live is a 
run-from-cd linux that has all the tools and scripts to do partition 
image copies.  Some minor changes in the scripting and some conventions 
to save the partition layout and mbr in backuppc should be all it takes.
