Took my L9 to a tape drive repair place just before I left Sydney for
Adelaide to start my new job in early October, and recently has a phone
call back for a 'quote'. I was quoted just over A$900 to 'repair' the
unit - that's horridly expensive! I don't actually know what's wrong
with it other than the robotics sometimes locking up part-way through a
tape load, and the tape drive itself running *very* slow.
Tandberg takes also much money for repairs. I made this experience twice with
my Superloader 1280, that broke down after 2 years and after 2 3/4 years again.
After the frist year you have to pay a service fee of 120,- Euro and after the
2nd year you have to pay, every time you send in the device regardless what's
wrong, the service fee and 1.780,- Euro (both without german 19% tax).
Tandberg doesn't repair your drive. They just send you a different repaired
one. Every time you use the replacement service, you have 6 month of warranty
to the replacement. In my case it broke down after 9 month again.
