That's what I do.

There is no way to ask networker what the underlying filesystem usage is. I ssh
to the sn and run df on the directory I get the max size, chop a bit off to
compensate for the overheads of an empty advfile directory structure, make a
list of cloned savesets ordered from oldest to newest and pick off enough to
get the usage down under the low water mark..

With my newer systems I had to rethink it a bit because I've got more than one
aftd on the same filesystem. I now have to detect which volumes are sharing
freespace, build a list of all savesets on those volumes and pick the oldest
from that list.

You have to remember also that there are cases where savesets have been deleted
but the space has not yet been recovered from the fs. The nsrmm delete comes
back and the actual file deletion is in the background. Other times activities
such as restores and cloning can hold up the recovery. You have to avoid
deleting too much stuff in these cases.

Yes, but staging would not allow us to keep a copy onsite and send a
copy offsite. We need the ability to copy the data (ie, clone) and then
delete at a later date. BUT, we also want to delete only when we're
running out of space. We just can't figure out how to get NetWorker to
let us know how big each disk device is.

Thanks.

Teresa,

You can easily configure staging (Configuration - Staging) from the
Networker Management Console. Staging will look for the configured
devices
and will clone data which is not yet recyclable to tape. In this way you

keep all data within the retention period on site.
