Folks,

We had a similar experience at 6.x with SCSI drives (DLT) attached to a
storage router and hence onto a SAN. Periodically, jobs would fail with
tape drive I/O errors and we would end up with a few Gigabytes on a
tape. After much digging around the issue turned out to be the SCSI
cables connecting the drives to the routers. When we looked at the
router logs we saw lots of parity SCSI errors. Replacing the SCSI
cables cured the problem.

Your configuration might be different but I thought I would share the
experience.

I have been working with Legato with this issue since March of 2004.
They have run me through so many hoops, but the problem keeps happening.
At first they said it was my environment, but now they are saying a lot
of people are starting to have the problem. They think it is due to
SANs. Do you have a storage SAN? If you would like to discuss all the
things Legato has had me try to no avail, lets visit.

It seems that we are experiencing som LTO instability after upgrading
from Networker 6.1.x to 7.1.x.
It seems as if after the upgrade we are getting very sporadic tape I/O
errors that are causing premature tape closure. We have tried to disable
CDI but that did not realy solve the problem.
I wonder if any of you have seen such problems and could recommend a
procedure to solve the problem.
Itzik
