Well I used pgrep backuppc and showed nothing.
So it's failed to launch for whatever reason.
Are there log files anywhere which could point to why? Pool size on a nas being used for storage has hit 90% in case that's relevant.
Possibly restarting the server may be worth a shot perhaps?

If you don't see output something like this, then BackupPC isn't running.
Considering it didn't find a valid pid in /var/run/backuppc/BackupPC.pid when you tried to restart, I'd say BackupPC wasn't running.
