If the web server is hacked, the backup is at risk.  If the backup is on a
host in your internal network and BackupPC is running on the webserver,
then the hacker can now get into your internal network.

A better setup is to have BackupPC running on a host in your internal
network and have it reach out to the web server and back it up from there.
This way, you don't have to make any holes in your firewall to allow
connections from the outside to the inside, thus reducing the risk of
intrusion.
