I can't find any selfcheck.*.debug on the client :(

Yes. I started by following the wiki instructions. I've also looked at

That's how I got the amanda server working on the linux machine. The 
problem seems to be getting the server and the windows client to connect. 
And this is the nub of my problem. I have an rsync script which does 
daily incremental backups of my linux box to an external USB drive. My 
wife runs windows on her laptop, and can't be persuaded to switch to 
linux, but has no backup strategy :(
