Ok, you all win!  I turned off the server firewall and . . .
I finally got a successful estimate!

The backup is currently running.  I assume I need to leave the firewall
off (or trust this host) for the duration of the run?  I'll either
simply trust this host and/or check out the web address Matt suggested
above for a long term answer.

I find this so weird since the firewall (on the server) has never been
a problem concerning amanda . . . until now.  I guess that's because
I've never attempted anything quite like this until now.
