If all the NBU binaries, logs, database etc is on their own filesystem/s:
- umount them create another lot of filesystems using the same mount
points;
- create old_NBU mount points, mount the old onto these;
- cpio the old onto the new;
- umount the old filesystems;
- run as an upgrade  - from the system point of view nothing has really
changed.

- if upgrade succeeds - blow the old logical volumes/filesystems - don't be
in a hurry  give it a while  - say a week or month if you can afford the
space.

- if fails blow away the new and mount the old filesystems back onto their
original mount points try again another day,  or blow away the new and
start again from the cpio copy.   If fails persistently, blow away the new
and try it as a new install.
