Hello Michael,

You can also try this. If you know the client or server name from which you
will restore files.

mminfo -avot servername

You will see a list of all the backups created for the server, including the
savesets, tape number and savesetid (SSID).
Using this output you can then manually load the tape in your drive were the
ssid you want to recover.

scanner -i -S [ssid from the mminfo output} /dev/[tape drive the volume is
mounted]

it will start scanning the tape and if there is continuation saveset from other
volumes, it will ask for it to be loaded, then you can
continue with the scanning.

regards,
Librado

I have some old tapes (old = 2007-02-28, so well far beyond our
browse/retention time). And now I need to restore some files off them. Our
policy is not to save the index with every backup job (i.e., we run our
own bootstrap job manually via schedule every day, doing a savegrp -O).
Since this is the first time I've had to do a restore from old tapes, I'm
a little unclear on the procedure.

NW 7.4.1, on Win2003

>From looking at the manual, I would need to do a:

scanner -m \\tape0 (since I have 4 tapes dated 2007-02-28, and 3 dated
from a later month)
Once that finishes for the 1st (?) tape, I would need to do a
     mminfo -a -v
to find out the sequence of tapes that this backup job consists of.

What tape do I do the "scanner -m" on, tho? I have 4 tapes, that pretty
much say "EOM 2007-02-28". Do I just put one in at random, and NW will
figure out the rest?

Then I do a

scanner -i \\tape0

starting with the first tape in sequence, as shown by the "mminfo -a -v"
command?

And once that's done, I can go to the client that these tapes originally
came from, and do a normal restore (after changing the "browse time" to be
2007-02-28 )?

I am trying to work my way around this, using the NW_Admin_Guide_7.4. If
there is a more concise list of steps on a FAQ or webpage somewhere, I'd
love to hear about it.

Thanks
