This weekend we will be replacing our file/print server (currently running
NT4.0) with new hardware (the old server is 1997 hardware) running W2K. Due
to some engineers hard coding the node name in documents for the FAA the
path of least resistance is to keep the same name for the new server as the
old server. The IP address may or may not change, we're not sure yet.

This obviously will affect the NetWorker backup of the client. Even thought
the disk layout will remain substantially the same (with 8X the space) the
OS has changed. Right now for the purposes of setting up the new server and
transferring the files both systems are on the network and are being backed
up. The old system is ZEUS and the new is called ARES but will be renamed
to ZEUS when we make the switch.

So my thoughts on how handle this with Networker are to rename the original
ZEUS index directory, delete the ZEUS & ARES clients then add the ZEUS
client back in for the new server.

The big negative to this is that I won't have easy access to the original
ZEUS index to restore files backed up before the change. I'm not sure that
it would work to just shut down NetWorker, switch the original and new index
directories, and restart, then reverse that to put them back.

Anyway, I was hoping some of you out there have done this before and would
be able to offer me some hints/suggestions for getting through this.

Thanks, Dave

Technical details: We're running NetWorker 6.2.1.Build.428 on W2K with 9
Windows clients and 1 Solaris client.
