Bacula Users Group

I have a beautiful CentOS server running Bacula open source that has been backing up my RedHat and CentOS systems great for years.

Recently on the Microsoft side of the house I lost my Microsoft DPM (Data Protection Manager) server that backed all the Windows servers. It is a hardware and software issue that I have not been able to solve on my own.

As a test, I am trying to add a single Windows system to my Bacula environment (even just a single directory....”C:\Bacula-test-folder\*” that contains some small .txt, .xls, .doc, .ppt, .vsd, .htm and .dwg files).

My attempts to successfully backup this Windows box have continued to fail and I am not sure why (otherwise I would not bother the group with this plea for knowledge).

Both hosts can ping and talk to each other so I do not believe it is an issue at OSI layers 1, 2 or 3.

I have read everything I could find on the Bacula sites and scouring Google.

It must be right under my nose.

Here is my system details:

Director/Storage Server

Bacula Version:             5.0.3

Operating system            CentOS Linux 5.5

Kernel and CPU                 Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.el5PAE on i686

Processor information   Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5140 @ 2.33GHz, 4 cores

CPU load averages          0.01 (1 min) 0.14 (5 mins) 0.21 (15 mins)

CPU usage                          1% user, 0% kernel, 1% IO, 98% idle

Real memory                     3.96 GB total, 320.48 MB used

Virtual memory                 1.94 GB total, 112 kB used

Local disk space                 726.39 GB total, 214.83 GB used

Windows Client

Bacula Version                  5.0.3

Operating system            Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Service Pack 2

Computer                           Dual-Core AMD Opteron Processor 2218 2.60 GHz 4.00 GB of RAM

System Load                      Extremely Low (that is why this system was chosen to beta)

The Windows server that I am trying to backup is  bnspflu1-ts01, (number 11 in the console output below). I have also turned off the Windows Firewall to make sure that it cannot be a factor. I have checked what I think is obvious, the password on the director/storage server in the /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf file and the bnspflu1-ts01-fd.conf file on the Windows client, and all networking. Again I think it must be right under my nose. Kern’s software is so great and it has really saved our bacon over the years on the Linux side, now I want to prove to my team how great it can be for Windows systems and possibly other future systems we might use. If anyone can help me it would be appreciated, probably this is a simple fix that I am just overlooking. - LK

Here is my output from the backup job on the server below.
