Although I have only tried this command 1 time, I think you need to do
that after using the drive for a while or filling a tape. Since there
is no result..
> [root@superback ~]# mt -f /dev/nst0 compression 1
Was there any data on the tape when you executed this command.
Remember you can not turn on compression if anything is written to the
tape. You must erase it first.
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
mt -f /dev/nst0 weof
