Are you 100% sure that /dev/sg3 is your changer? I ask this because on
my system my device nodes changed after a reboot. I fixed this with a
udev rule though.

You can test the node with the tapeinfo command

# tapeinfo -f /dev/autochanger1

SCSI ID: 3
