Hi:

What I do generally is create a .forward file in the user home directory
and inform inside this file the external email account where I wanna
receive the mails locally delivered to the user. Then all standard tools
& procs ( cron, bacula ...) sends mails locally to the process owner
and .forward file is used to reroute the message to the external account

Normally the installed mail router in the machine has no problems
sending mails outside ( pay attention to blocked traffic from gateway
firewalls )
