I think you should use the corresponding ELx RPM. There are RPM's for
all RHEL current variants, if I'm not mistaken. The ones I need are in
- -fschwarz. I would recommend RPM's, for the reasons you described --
upgrades then become trivial. You will not need to worry about removing
the source version right away as everything should install in different
places. Just make sure the startup script does not start the source copy.
