1. Don't trust BackupPC to work with nmblookup. While theoretically it
works, It's a lot easier if you have DNS entries (maybe go with dynamic
DNS).
2. I've always had awful luck getting nmb to work over a VPN. Theoretically
that's what WINS is for; but like all Microsoft products, it tends to break
unexpectedly and randomly.
