Or better would be:
ssh -l root -T cpanel /bin/true
and you should get this:
backuppc@host:~$ ssh -l root -T remotehost /bin/true
backuppc@host:~$

ie, no blank line, no error, no text, nothing at all. If you see
*anything* then you need to fix that first.

BTW, the -T means "Disable pseudo-tty allocation."
